Gastvortrag von Dr. Itay Marienberg-Milikowsky (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev)
The Narrativization of the Babylonian Talmud. What can Distant Reading Teach Us?
Wann: 28.05.2024, 16:30
Wo: Institut für Judaistik, Hörsaal 1
The stories woven into the Babylonian Talmud have for many years aroused much interest among scholars.
Yet the number of Talmudic stories that have actually received detailed literary analysis is quite small compared to the estimated few thousand stories transmitted in the Babylonian Talmud. What happens when we try to explore the stories of the Babylonian Talmud as a whole? In this talk, Dr. Marienberg-Milikowsky will try to demonstrate how the adopting of a point of view which Franco Moretti called ‘distant reading’ can shed light on the understanding of these stories as a system.
