About the Key Research Area
The key research area "Text and Scholarly Editing" serves as an exchange platform for researchers and students interested in (digital) scholarly editing in its broadest sense. At its core are both small and large-scale projects focused on the representation and publication of sources. It also fosters dialogue with adjacent research fields, such as material culture, infrastructure, and computational analysis.
Sensible concepts of digital editing are grounded in a sound understanding of editorial challenges. They must reflect centuries-old methodological traditions while also incorporating the latest advancements in data modeling and representation.
Through lectures and workshops, we facilitate knowledge sharing across departments, faculties, and academic generations. Students are encouraged to document these activities on our blog.
Scholarly editing today is not typically regarded as a privileged field for university careers (editions cannot serve as PhD theses). However, it remains one of the foundational prerequisites for future humanities research, providing critically verified, reliable data that forms the basis for any evidence-based epistemology.
